Here’s one we need your help with:
The photo is marked “Famous Boiler Room Annual Dinners”, which were supposedly held in the cellar of Royce Hall. Who participated in these dinners? When did they occur and what were they for?

Our plea for information about the photo did not go unheeded. We heard from Elsie McLaughlin Witman ’53, whose father, Claude McLaughlin, was for many years chief engineer of the boiler room in the basement of Royce Hall. “The boiler room staff would invite faculty to lunch as a goodwill gesture,” Witman says.
“My brothers Leon ’50 and Bruce ’51 and I think that’s our dad in coveralls on the far right, walking away.”
